From April 21 to 23, 2026, the second partner meeting of the Interreg South Baltic project “Back2Woods” took place in Rietavas and Klaipėda (Lithuania).
The focus was on sustainable rural tourism concepts centered on forest and nature experiences, as well as the development of joint approaches for the “Destination Forest” brand. Discussions centered in particular on the differences between recreational, therapeutic, and healing forests, as well as their tourism potential in the southern Baltic Sea region.
Wismar University was represented by Dr. Laima Gerlitz, Dr. Monika Klein, and Andreas Klein. The program was complemented by specialized workshops, excursions, and a public lecture by Prof. Marcel Robischon from Humboldt University in Berlin.
The project is co-financed by the Interreg South Baltic Program 2021–2027.
