Tools of Systemic Consulting

Renate Malter

Systemic consulting is not a protected term; however, in Germany the Systemische Gesellschaft (SG) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Systemische Therapie, Beratung und Familientherapie (DGSF) define the professional standards.

Systemic therapists and systemic consultants share the same theoretical foundations and methodological toolbox. The key difference is that systemic therapists are specially qualified to work with individuals diagnosed with clinical conditions, while systemic consulting focuses on everyday professional and personal concerns, helping clients clarify goals, solve problems, and achieve desired outcomes.

Systemic consulting requires the same level of professional rigor as systemic therapy and must always be rooted in sound expertise.

Following an initial book on the theoretical foundations and questioning techniques of systemic consulting—which has already been integrated into current teaching—a second book project is now underway. This volume will present the practical tools of systemic consulting and make them accessible for professional application.
