Wismar University was represented with its Back2Woods project at the launch event for the first "MV Ostseetage" on 10 June 2026 in Greifswald. The event was organised by the “Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Kultur, Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns” and brought together numerous stakeholders from academia, politics and civil society.
Based at the European Project Centre (EPC) and funded by the Interreg South Baltic Programme, the project explores how forest landscapes in the southern Baltic Sea region can be utilised more effectively for sustainable tourism and regional development strategies. The focus is on aspects of recreation, health promotion and cross-border cooperation.
During the event, the project team presented its activities to date and took the opportunity to engage in professional discussions with representatives from various institutions. Discussions with Minister Bettina Martin, Prof. Junghanß from Rostock University Medical Centre, and other organisations from Germany and Poland opened up new avenues for future collaboration. Topics discussed included health-related activities in natural environments, accessible nature experiences and joint approaches to sustainable development in the Baltic Sea region.
The MV Baltic Sea Days thus provided a platform for expanding existing networks and gaining fresh impetus for international project work.
