For the first time, our UAS was able to take part in an awards ceremony as part of the City Cycling campaign. Although every individual’s cycling activities and every journey, however short, counted towards our university’s total, we are of course also delighted by outstanding achievements. With 606 journeys completed between 21 May and 20 June, our team came 7th in the local authority rankings. In the ‘Universities/Colleges/Schools’ category, it took first place with a total of 8,808 kilometres covered (300 km ahead of the Bad Kleiner Kettenkapitäne). Yvonne Butzke accepted this prize, along with a Kubb set and two table tennis sets for the Wismar campus, on behalf of all the participants.
A large part of this overall result is down to our civil engineering student, Marc Witt. He alone covered 2,222 kilometres, securing third place in the men’s rankings for the NWM municipality. Together with Catharin Krüger, an interior design student, and Luis Kopatschek, a business informatics student, he – who had to sit an exam the following day – cycled from the Wismar campus to the Rehnar monastery complex on Sunday, 5 July 2026. Both Catharin (621.9 km) and Luis (652.3 km) feature in the top five of our Campus Cycling Team. Incidentally, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics had secured second place in the team rankings with an impressive 1,413 km, having contributed his journey from home to work to the team’s total.
What wonderful results we’ve achieved! It’s a great opportunity to say thank you to everyone who took part. We’ll be cycling together again next year and are already looking forward to everyone contributing their cycling kilometres.
