Prof. Dr Volker Grienitz discussed digital technologies and their role in care with participants at the University for the Elderly.

How can digital technologies support care and independent living in old age? Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Volker Grienitz addressed this question on 18 September 2026 at the event ‘The Future of Modern Care’ organised by the Senior Citizens’ University of Wismar, an initiative of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Senior Citizens’ Advisory Council. The focus was on digital care concepts and technical assistance systems for everyday life. The participants took a critical look at technical innovations and discussed their potential applications. Things took a practical turn during the demonstration of a robot dog, which attracted a great deal of interest.

At Wismar University of Applied Sciences, Grienitz researches digitalisation and its social implications. Among other things, the PflegeLab tests and further develops digital care concepts, sensor technology, AI and assistance systems.
